In The Beginning
I started cleaning pools as teenager in1973, after my parents
built a pool, it was as part my chores at home. I cleaned
pools & mowed lawns for extra money as a college student. In
1983 I went to work for a friend as a part time pool cleaner
until 1985. During that time I went to numerous training classes
to become a certified pool cleaner. After becoming very
proficient as a pool cleaner, I began to solicit clients of my
own.
The Road of an Entrepreneur
I started my own pool company as a a part of a college
Entrepreneur's class. The company was a partnership with a
friend from a grocery store I worked in at the time. We were
both stockers & the pool business was just extra money for us.
Together we built a small pool cleaning company that grew to
about 40 pools in 3 years.
The Start of Blue Horizon Pool & Spa Co.
In May 1988 I started Blue Horizon Pool & Spa Co. I began going
to seminars & training classes to become certified in swimming
pool repairs & renovation. I began renovating pools in 1988 &
worked side by side with my subcontractors to learn how to do
the actual work. I began to specialize in difficult projects. By
2002 I had mastered all aspects of pool renovation, repair, &
maintenance. In 1995 I joined the Independent Pool & Spa Service
Association (IPSSA) & the National Pool & Spa Institute (NSPI,
now the APSP).
The Road To Maturity
In 1998 I got married. Now it was time to get serious about the
swimming pool business. My wife ran the office which gave
me the freedom to focus expanding our business. In 1999 we
incorporated as the number of clients & employees grew. In
2002 I hired one of my long time subcontractors to help run the
renovation department. He is now in charge of operations & a
co-owner of the company. In 2003 we became a Home Warranty
provider. We quickly became the 3rd largest provider in the
area. The experience allowed our company to become extremely
efficient as swimming pool repair provider. In 2004, I was
elected to the Board of Directors for IPSSA & I served until
2009. In 2005, I was elected to the board of Director for The
Texas Pool & Spa Show, & served as an instructor for training
classes as well. Also in 2004 we took the final step to becoming
a full service company & started building pools with the help of
a long time friend who has been building commercial pools for 30
years.
Who We Are Now
After 5 years as a Home Warranty provider, 22+ years of hands on
construction experience, & continuous on-going training &
education, our company has created of reputation as a Superior
Service Provider for the industry. We enjoy a hard earned A+
rating with the Better Business Bureau. We have earned the
distinction as a Superior Service Provider with Angie's List &
Service Magic. In addition, we still are a Home Warranty service
provider for multiple Home Warranty companies. In new
construction, we use state of the 3D CAD design software from
Structure Studios for our new pool design. Our 30+ years of
experience maintaining, repairing & remodeling swimming pools,
gives us an edge & the unique ability to build pools that are
not only beautiful but also practical & reliable. Our
pools are built with the reduction of maintenance & service
required in mind. We also provide business to business
services (B2B) to our lineup services to the industry. We
provide repair & construction services to retailers & other
service companies, so you can be assured of our expertise in the
industry. My personal goal is to provide the best possible
service & expertise available to our industry . I spend many
hours as a volunteer to train & educate my staff & my
competitors in our industry. Thank you for taking the time to
